KCB coach Otieno tears into 'clueless' football administrators

Africa-Press – Kenya. KCB head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has called out football administrators in the country over their failure to involve key stakeholders in the decision-making process.

Otieno expressed concerns over what he described as a growing tendency by relevant authorities to snub and sideline the people who matter most in the sport.

“It is sad that the people who are making these decisions are not football stakeholders. Coaches, players and referees haven’t spoken. As a country, we need to be serious with our football and resolve these issues amicably,” added Otieno.

The gaffer made the remarks after his charges thumped Eastlanders FC 3-1 in a pre-season friendly match at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Nairobi on Wednesday. Otieno said he was impressed by the form of his team in the encounter.

“I am very happy with the boys. We had an objective to assess the team’s fitness before the start of the 2022/2023 Kenya Premier League season. They look ready to compete and are in a good shape.” Said Otieno.

Henry Ochieng fired the bankers into the lead before late strikes by Allan Ogedo and Kennedy Owino put the results beyond doubt.

Meanwhile, KCB have signed centre-half Nicholas Kipkurui from rivals Nairobi City Stars.

Kipkurui, who penned a one-year deal, marveled at the prospects of donning the bankers’ blue, white and green colours.

“I am really pumped to be in this Zedekiah Otieno led side. This is a top team in the league and I am raring to go. I want to score many goals and help my team claim a Kenya Premier League title,” Kipkurui said.

The former Zoo Kericho and Gor Mahia marksman said he would put his experience to practice as he seeks to propel his new side to greatness.

“Having played Caf Champions League with Gor, my wealth of experience added to the lads at KCB will propel the squad to greater achievements,” he said.

He is expected to make his debut in a friendly match against Thika-based side Bidco United at the same venue on Thursday.

KCB FC have also completed the signing of defenders Maurice Ajwang and Kevin Otieno who will fill in the boots of departed Robinson Kamura and Baraka Badi.

They lost the services of last season’s top scorer Derrick Otanga who is eyeing a professional stint with Algerian top-flight side CS Constantine.

The bankers are stropping their talons ahead of the new season which will officially kick off early next month.

They will open their account against Kariobangi Sharks at Moi Stadium Kasarani on September 10.
