Africa-Press – Kenya. Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla flagged off a team of Kenya Defense Forces personnel to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday.

The deployment is part of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission (MONUSCO) focusing on neutralizing armed belligerents in the Eastern part of DRC.

“Over the years, Kenya has sent troops in various peacekeeping missions and have been commended for their courage and professionalism. As you go there, protect the face of Kenya since you’re not only representing KDF but the entire country,” Ogolla said.

200 KDF soldiers were sent off at Embakasi Garrison after five months of rigorous pre-deployment training that was focusing on making them ready for the mission.

Ogolla urged the team to uphold and surpass the exemplary performance registered by the first Quick Reaction Force (QRF) team.

He also reminded the team to protect civilians, and pursue peace in line with the United Nations (UN) Code of Conduct.

Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Peter Njiru, who was also present, urged them to make connections with soldiers from other countries.

“Take advantage of the tour of duty to also learn through interaction with another partner military in the mission,” Njiru added.

Other officials present during the event were; the Assistant Chief of Defense Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L), Formation Commanders, senior officers, officers and service members.

In August 2021, a group of officers left for the Democratic Republic of Congo on a peace mission.
