Africa-Press – Kenya. The government of Ukraine is keen on having a good relationship with Kenya and its people, the country’s Ambassador to Kenya Andrii Pravednyk has said.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call to Radio Africa Group on Tuesday, Pravednyk said his country donated 25,000 tonnes of wheat to Kenya despite farming production being heavily affected by bombs from Russia

“Our production of cereals has gone down by nearly a half from a high of 122 million metric tonnes in 2021, and dropped to 71 million metric tonnes in 2022,” he said.

The Ambassador also said the country hopes that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ten-point peace plan will be welcomed by big players around the world.

“We hope the ten peace plan by our president will be welcomed and that can form negotiations on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine,” he noted.

Ukraine continues to play a key role in global food security amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia.

The country, which mainly grows and exports wheat, corn and barley is one of the world’s major grain producers.

Statistics from the European Commission indicate that Ukraine accounts for 10 per cent of the world wheat market, 15 per cent of the corn market, and 13 per cent of the barley market.
