Africa-Press – Kenya. Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho passed away on Sunday while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.
The late Kiaraho was among just two MPs from Nyandarua County who braved the strong UDA wave in Mt Kenya in 2022.
The late Kiaraho was re-elected as Ol Kalou after garnering 24, 058 votes against his closest rival, Samuel Kamau (UDA), who obtained 19, 380 votes.
Kinangop’s Kwenya Thuku was the second MP who retained his seat on a Jubilee party ticket, where heavyweights such as former minister Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri) and Jubilee Deputy Party leader Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa) were trounced.
“I promise to continue with my development record, which is the reason my constituents have trusted me with this seat for the third time. The UDA wave was strong here, yet they chose to retain me, an indication that they have confidence in my leadership,” Kiaraho said after being declared.
The 62-year-old Alliance High School alumni and an architect by profession was first elected to the house in 2013 on a TNA ticket, got his second term in 2017 via Jubilee Alliance, while the third came through Jubilee.
During his tenure, he participated actively in Parliament, serving on key committees including the Departmental Committee on Public Works, Roads & Transport and the Procedure and House Rules Committee.
In his third term, the Mzalendo website that monitors the performance of MPs indicated that he had spoken 72 times in the house.
Born on October 10, 1963, the late MP sat his CPE at Park Road Primary School in 1977 before proceeding to Alliance High School for O’ Levels (1981) and Nairobi School for his A Levels in 1983.
Kiaraho then joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) in 1985 and graduated with Bachelor of Architecture in 1992.
Before venturing into politics, he had a stellar career from 1994, when he worked as a Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, Architects and Interior Designers till the time he left to join parliament in 2013.
Kiaraho’s death was confirmed by the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify Members of the National Assembly and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Member for Ol Kalou, the late MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away today, Sunday, March 29, 2026, at around 20 minutes past 1 am while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital,” Wetang’ula said.
“Having served alongside him in the 11th, 12th, and 13th Parliaments, I came to appreciate his dedication to leadership and service to the people. His passing is a great loss to his family, constituents, and the nation,” Jomvu MP Badi Twalib mourned him.
Twalib added, “To his family and loved ones, may you find strength, comfort, and peace in this difficult moment. Rest in peace, Hon. Njuguna. Your legacy of service will be remembered.”
