Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has defended the Kenya Kwanza government’s Finance Act 2023.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kidero said President William Ruto will not succumb to pressure from Azimio la Umoja coalition to reverse the Finance Act 2023.
“I do not think the President (Ruto) is going to bend to threats, intimidation and blackmail because that is what Azimio is doing,” he said during an interview on K24 TV.
Kidero said the intimidations are aimed at forcing the government to dance to the opposition’s tune.
Defending the doubling of Value Added Tax, he said fuel prices were fair compared to most countries in the world.
“The price of petrol has gone up in not only Africa but the whole world. Kenya even with this price increase is in the middle,” Kidero said.
The opposition has planned simultaneous rallies in major towns across the country as they seek to launch what they have termed the Third Liberation.
Raila will lead a major rally at the historic Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi on Friday, the day that will coincide with the commemoration of the Saba Saba movement.
He has asked his supporters to turn out in large numbers in other venues across the country as well and express their disappointment with President Ruto’s administration.
