Kipkogei mourns the sadden death of his javelin coach Barno

Africa-Press – Kenya. Fast-rising javelin star Meshack Kipkogei is mourning the sudden death of his coach and teacher David Kiplagat Barno.

Barno, who retired in July as a principal at St Thomas Secondary school, Kapchumba died last Friday after a short illness.

Kipkogei, who sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education this year, said Barno was his pillar in his javelin career after taking up the sport while in Form Two at the same school.

“His death is a blow to my career because he has been my coach for many years. He introduced me to the sport and despite clearing school, he has continued to train me,” said Kipkogei.

Early this year, the late Barno bought a new javelin for Kipkogei to help him train and represent the country at the World Under-20 Championships held in Cali, Colombia. However, he did not manage to get the slot after he decided to concentrate on his education.

“I was with him last Sunday in training only to be informed about his death on Friday,” added Kipkogei.
