Africa-Press – Kenya. St Michael Kiplombe have set their eyes on reaching the nationals in rugby 7s following their triumph in the Uasin Gishu County Secondary School Games according to coach Timothy Natembeya.
Kiplombe beat Chebisaas 14-05 in the finals played at Wareng High School on Saturday to book a ticket to the regional games. Kiplombe have won the past five consecutive editions of the County games but have failed to dominate the Rift Valley Championships.
Natembeya acknowledged the team’s struggles at the regional level but challenged the players to break that barrier in order to qualify and play in the national championships for the first time.
“We have learnt from our past mistakes. The target this time round is to book the national slot and that means winning the regional championships,” Natembeya, a player in his heydays, said.
“The material and financial support from the school came in handy,” he added. Natembeya said losing to St Patrick’s Iten in 15s at the semifinals last term, forced them back to the drawing board.
“We had to re-strategise after losing to St.Patrick’s in the semis last term. It means we have a point to prove in 7s.”
In the semifinals, Kiplombe made light work of Teldet, beating the minnows 26-0 in a one-sided affair while Chebisaas overcame a tough challenge from Kabongo to prevail 12-5.
