Africa-Press – Kenya. Hosts Kisii University dominated cluster three of the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (Western Conference) soccer championships by winning both the men and women’s titles.
In the women’s category, Kisii University opened their title hunt by beating Rongo University 1-0, thanks to Zena Akinyi’s lone strike.
In the second game, Kisii played to a barren draw against Tom Mboya University College while in the last game, Stacy Awuor scored the all-important goal as Kisii University narrowly edged Kabianga 1-0.
In other games, Tom Mboya beat Rongo 2-0 before holding Kabianga Ladies to a barren draw. Rongo recorded their only win after beating Kabianga 2-0. Kisii finished top of the group with seven points followed by Tom Mboya (5) while Rongo was third with three points. Kabianga was last with a point.
Kisii and Tom Mboya will represent cluster three at the regionals scheduled for February 19 at Kaimosi University College.
In the men’s category, Kisii University, coached by former international Elijah Onsika reigned supreme winning all their three games to finish top of the group with nine points followed in second place by Tom Mboya University College with four points while Kabianga was third with one point.
Kisii showed their intention from the beginning after a 4-2 win over Rongo before thrashing Kabianga 3-1.
In the last game, Kisii saw off a stubborn Tom Mboya 2-0. Tom Mboya recorded their only win after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Kabianga.
Kisii University and Tom Mboya proceed to the regionals to be held at Maseno University on February 5, 2022.
In cluster one, Masinde Murilo University of Science and Technology (MMUST) defeated Kaimosi University College 2-0 in the men’s category. In the women’s cadre, MMUST and KAFUCO drew 1-1.
Maseno University dominated cluster two. In the men’s category, Maseno defeated Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology 2-1before beating Great Lakes University 2-0 in another encounter. JOOUST recorded their only win after seeing off Great Lakes University 1-0.
Maseno collected maximum six points to top the group with JOOUST settling for second place with three points. In women’s soccer, Maseno edged JOOUST 2-0.
