Africa-Press – Kenya. The Kenya Netball Federation has named a provisional team of 30 ahead of the Africa World Youth Cup qualifiers in Pretoria, South Africa, between March 14 and 24.

The team, which will be whittled to 12, was selected during national U-21 trials held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

However, head coach Mary Walubengo is not satisfied with the ‘limited’ time they have to prepare for the South African contest.

“The talent from the secondary schools and colleges is immense. I wish we could have more time to prepare. We have great players but who need a lot of coaching.”

KNF chairperson Immaculate Kabutha emphasised the significance of nurturing youth players for future success.

“If Kenya triumphs in March, the girls will head to Gibraltar for the global event in August,” Kabutha said.

The federation, she said, is committed to developing young talent in collaboration with the government.

A total of 11 counties were represented at the trials, which featured 20 teams composed of players from secondary schools and colleges.

Kabutha led the panel of selectors alongside Walubengo and national team captain Parin Simiyu and his assistant George Adoyo.

Among the top players named in the team are Doreen Akinyi of Ulinzi Swords and Miriam Nekesa of Kenya Prisons.
