KPL returnees Shabana land Sh20m sponsorship deal

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kisii Governor Simba Arati has announced that an unnamed investor is willing to pump a Sh20 million sponsorship into newly-promoted Kenyan Premier League side Shabana. The Governor further pledged to bring more sponsors to the club which made a return to the top-flight after 17 years.

Arati on Friday night hosted the club for dinner at Villa Rosa Kempinski after their 3-0 win over Darajani Gogo with the potential investors in attendance. The Governor gave the team Sh500, 000.

“For a start, we have an investor willing to put in Sh20 million. However, there is more to come. We want these players to be comfortable,” said Arati. He, however, did not name investors but Shabana management announced that they will negotiate with all those willing to sponsor the club.

Club secretary general Elizaphan Kerama, chairman Jared Nivaton and treasurer Bosire Anyoka added that several sponsors are willing to partner the Glamour Boys.

Anyoka said they will on Tuesday sit with the investors and interogate their offer. “There are other incentives but we will have to look at it before we sign the deal,” Anyoka told the Star.

Kerama said: “We are currently negotiating with some sponsors. We shall settle for the best deal.” Meanwhile, Kerama has ruled out overhauling the squad ahead of their KPL return.

“We cannot make such mistake. However, we shall sit down with the technical bench and see areas we can beef up since KPL is a tough league,” said Kerama, adding that they are targeting at least seven signings.

He said the club will sign at least seven players. “We must strengthen the team. The head coach and his team will have a free hand in recruitment. Our minimum target for next season is to maintain our top tier league status,” added the SG.

Nivaton added: “We have sat down with the coach and agreed that he will be with us next season.” Governor Arati announced that the county plans to rehabilitate Gusii Stadium once the league concludes on July 8.

“We have already allocated funds for works on the retainer wall, the playing field and the inner perimeter fence,” said Arati, who was named the club patron.

Shabana will on Tuesday host Mully Children’s Family (MCF) before traveling to Murang’a for a game against title rivals Murang’a Seal on July 2. They will conclude the league against Kisumu All Stars at Gusii Stadium.
