Africa-Press – Kenya. Black Mamba coach Abdalla Otieno has vowed to lift the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) Super Cup after missing the national championship. The coach said the confidence in the camp is sky-high after three weeks of training. His target is to book a ticket to the Africa Championships in Tunisia.
The tactician warned that his charges are ready and remain the team to beat in the six-team two-week tournament that throws off on May 13 at Nyayo National Stadium.
“I have a red-hot team right now and I am warning my opponents that they will see a fired-up Mamba team they have never faced before.” He said: “We will go off from the opening whistle and I am daring my opponents to come prepared. We want to avenge for missing the league crown.”
Otieno admitted that they made mistakes in the league and they learned their lessons. The coach acquired 11 new players and he has no injury concerns.
“The team is loaded. I am going to have two players competing for every position, a luxury that I have not had for a long time.” He added, “Besides, I also have five goalkeepers including a former star who is making a strong comeback to the team.”
Mamba beat Kenyatta University 17-15 and lost 19-16 and 28-22 to Strathmore University and national champions National Cereals and Produce Board respectively in recent friendly matches.
In the Super Cup draw, they will play NCPB and General Service Unit in Pool A. Pool B has Ulinzi, Strathmore and Kenyatta University. Battling for honours in the women’s category are reigning champions Nairobi Water Queens, Ulinzi Sharks, NCPB and Rangers.
