Africa-Press – Kenya. NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua has revealed that she is focused on the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat amid speculations of being a possible running mate in the 2022 General Election.

While addressing a political gathering in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County on Saturday, October 24, Karua further dispelled the speculations, stating that she had not received any offers for the running mate position.

The former Kirinyanga gubernatorial candidate explained that she would be on the losing end if she waited to be offered the position.

“I have said that I am only vying here for the gubernatorial seat, then you should believe me and stop asking around,” Karua stated.

Karua went ahead to dismiss reports that she had been offered the running mate position by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

“I can tell you standing here, no one has requested me to be their deputy,” Karua revealed.

In addition, the NARC Kenya party leader stated the running mate’s position was a position that required a lot of lobbying, stating that no one would be sure of getting picked.

“You can vie for a Deputy President’s seat, you’ll have to float in the air until May next year awaiting a candidate to have mercy on you,” the NARC party leader stated.

Karua also hit out at governor Anne Waiguru and Purity Ngirici who have called on her to shelve her ambitions and focus on the running mate position. Previously, the two leaders stated that the former presidential aspirant should focus on national politics.

She defended her gubernatorial ambitions stating that she was a focused leader who has a reputable career in politics.

“I resigned as a minister and not an MP. I finished my term as a lawmaker and went ahead to represent my people in Parliament. I was roaring like a lioness in that assembly,” she insisted.

Previously, at separate events, presidential hopefuls have recognised the former justice minister for her personality with many referring to her as an ‘iron lady’.

At the same time, Karua insisted that they would rally for multiple political parties in the Mt. Kenya region affirming that they will not dissolve their political parties to join a single vehicle ahead of the polls.

On Monday, September 20, the Mount Kenya Unity Forum, which brings together several party leaders from the vote-rich region, endorsed Karua as their official spokesperson.

Karua was accompanied by Mukhisa Kituyi, Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana who also have presidential ambitions.
