Africa-Press – Kenya. Masosa Secondary and Kisii National Polytechnic clinched the women’s men’s titles during the Kisii University invitational tournament.

Masosa, the Nyamira County secondary schools champions, emerged winners in the women’s category after victories over hosts Kisii University and Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi Secondary school.

In the opening game, Masosa narrowly overcame hosts Kisii University 8-7 in a tough encounter and also had another hard-fought 4-1 win over Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi secondary.

In another game, Kisii University had a 10-0 consolation win over Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi secondary.

Masosa garnered a total of four points after the two wins with the hosts settling for a second position with two points. Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi were point-less.

Masosa coach Justus Mireri said: “I’m happy sports activities have resumed. We are hoping secondary school games will also resume soon. We have not had good training because of uncertainties concerning school games.”

He was not satisfied with the way his girls played but said they will improve.

“As we go back to school games, we want to intensify our training because this win has boosted the girls’ morale,” added Mireri.

In the men’s category, Kisii National Polytechnic won the event on goal difference despite tying on five points with hosts Kisii University in an event played on round-robin format. Masosa Mixed Secondary School settled for the third position with two points.

In the opening game, Kisii National Polytechnic and Kisii University played to a 10-10 draw; Kisii Polytechnic edged Masosa 14-4 before edging Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi 12-1.

On the other hand, Kisii University defeated Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi 21-1 as Masosa Mixed recorded their only win of the tournament after beating Senior Chief Musa Nyandusi 11-05.
