Mazembe sets sight on title with KCB despite torrid start

Africa-PressKenya. Even after experiencing a baptism of fire in his dream debut for KCB, James Mazembe believes his move to the bankers still holds out a bright future for his glowing career.

The fleet-footed creative midfielder did an entire 90 minutes on his first day in the bankers’ shirt against Gor Mahia who beat them 2-1 in their season’s opener at Thika Stadium a week ago with goals coming at both ends of the interval.

Coach Zedekiah Otieno snatched him after a splendid season with rivals Kariobangi Sharks, where he netted two goals and provided a record eleven assists.

Mazembe holds on to the conviction that a lot more is in store for him in the new season, adding he intends to enhance his statistics on the pitch to propel the bankers to a maiden top-flight title after they missed to clinch it in the preceding season by a whisker.

“My objective is to help KCB win their maiden title this season. I can only achieve this by stepping on the gas peddle to net more goals and provide more assists,” quipped Mazembe.

The midfielder, who is known to pull off entrancing footworks that leave his markers baffled and dazed in equal measure, said he wasn’t left with a bad taste in his mouth after being excluded from the 25-man final Harambee Stars squad for the next World Cup qualifier against Mali.

“It’s now upon me to work harder so that I can be considered for a first team role in the next assignment. I’m glad I at least made it to the provisional squad,” said Mazembe.

Mazembe linked up with the bankers after plying trade for Kariobangi Sharks for two seasons. He shot into the limelight after proving his mettle at the 2018 Kenya Secondary Schools ball game, where he fired Kakamega High school to the national finals.
