MCK sets six centers, deploys 150 press monitors ahead of polls

Africa-Press – Kenya. The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has established six media centres and deployed 150 press monitors across the country ahead of the August polls.

MCK CEO David Omwoyo in a statement on Friday said the media centres will accord accredited journalists a conducive environment to report on the polls.

“This is in line with the Council’s strategic efforts to strengthen the work of journalists towards free, fair and credible elections,” he said.

He said the centres will begin their operation from August 7 to 10.

Omwoyo noted that journalists will have access to technical and logistical support and information on elections-related matters.

“Journalists will be provided with workstations, fast and reliable internet to enable seamless flow of information,” he said.

The council has also deployed 150 freedom monitors to observe adherence and access to information for journalists.

He said the move will help monitor cases of violation of the rights of journalists and respond to distress calls.

He urged journalists to reach out to MCK through the 24- hour hotline 0702222111 and email at [email protected] in case of any violations.

He urged the accredited journalists to utilize the facilities to ensure high-quality reporting and adherence to professionalism when relaying election information.
