Africa-PressKenya. Things are getting murky for former President Daniel Arap Moi’s grandson Collins Toroitich in a child upkeep case filed by a local female politician.

In the latest development, the grandson is facing contempt charges after he failed to appear in hospital for DNA testing to ascertain that he sired two children with Gladys Jeruto Tagi.

The test was ordered by Senior Resident Magistrate Benjamin Limo attached to Nakuru Law Courts.

Toroitich was scheduled to appear at Lancet Laboratories for the exercise on Friday, June 18, but Tagi claimed that he never showed up and never revealed his whereabouts.

“My clients appeared at the hospital on Friday morning and stayed until the afternoon but Mr Moi did not show up. Neither him nor his lawyers’ phone calls were going through,” stated Tagi through her lawyer.

The woman has, as a result, threatened to file another petition to have Toroitich punished for his actions.

The DNA testing case was advocated by the former President’s grandson who was seeking proof that he was not the father of the two children aged 9 and 11 years.

Toroitich was sued by the female politician for abandoning his parental duties in March 2021.

According to court papers, Toroitich married Tagi – a Baringo-based politician – in 2008 but later separated after four years. The two sired a boy and a girl.

Tagi, in her application, noted that Toroitich had never taken responsibility for both children despite being a well-off businessman.

“I am currently unable to provide for the children alone as the needs are so many and would need to be assisted,” she stated.

She further stated that efforts to reach Toroitich were deemed futile as she alleged that he had blocked her phone number.

Tagi had contested for the MCA Koibatek Ward seat in the 2017 General elections but lost to Musa Cheruiyot.
