Africa-Press – Kenya. Defending champions of the Kenya Hockey Union men’ Premier League Butali Warriors have confirmed the signings of Kelvin Muli and Kennedy Okinyi ahead of the 2023 league season.

Muli is a utility player while Okinyi is a defender by trade. The duo is from Multimedia University and Bay club respectively according to team manager Victor Opere.

“The pair are good prospects, youthful, quick and will add depth and bring competition to our star-studded squad,” Opere said.

“They need to blend with the rest of the squad but so far so good.”

Butali seem to have changed their approach in signing players. Unlike in the past where the team roped in blockbuster names, the sugar millers have gone for raw talent that needs nurturing.

“We have the requisite experience to thrive in the league. By signing youthful players, we are looking at the long-term plan. These players fit into our system and the playing philosophy,” Opere added.

Butali have won the past four league titles in a row. Last season, they only lost once-the ultimate fixture against perennial rivals Kenya Police in the dead rubber fixture.

Butali failed to sparkle in the African Cup for Club Championship in Nairobi, last month.
