Africa-Press – Kenya. Former Internal Security Assistant Minister Stephen Tarus’ woes have escalated after rowdy youth burned down his house on Sunday, October 24.
Speaking to the Press on Monday, October 25, the former lawmaker and Australian Envoy has now revealed that he was targeted due to his support for the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a statement that has since attracted the attention of supporters and critics alike, Tarus bashed the Jubilee Government noting that it had abandoned the people from North Rift hence his support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader.
He further decried that the torching of his house due to his political affiliations was unfair.
“The current Constitution is a democracy. It is human rights enshrined in the Constitution that protects everyone and no one has the right to load it against anyone. I would like every Presidential candidate looking for votes to be received anywhere in the republic of Kenya to sell their policies.
“I want Raila Odinga to go across the Republic of Kenya asking Kenyans for support. I want no man to restrict any man from supporting whoever they think they agree with whose policies,” he stated.
The former assistant minister, who also served as the Emgwen MP, had clashed with Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi following his sentiments in favour of Raila.
He even got specific details indicating that Jubilee Government stopped supporting his constituency in 2018.
He filed a report at the Police Station on Saturday, October 23, after claiming that Oscar Sudi had attacked him during the funeral of the slain athlete Agnes Tirop.
Sudi had warned Tarus from attacking the Deputy President William Ruto publicly.
In mid-2020, the former lawmaker had also found himself in the red after Garam Investment Auctioneers put his Karen mansion up for auction over Ksh70 million loan.
Tarus served as the Internal Security Assistant Minister during the era of former President Mwai Kibaki.
