Africa-Press – Kenya. Nairobi Basketball Association will send four teams to next month’s Kenya Basketball Federation National Provincial playoffs in Mombasa, chairman Ronny Owino has said.
The inter-provincial tournament, which will determine the county teams to be promoted to the KBF lower tier league next year, is scheduled for December 17-18.
“Our top two teams in the men and women category will qualify to represent Nairobi in the tournament in Mombasa,” said Owino.
“The winners and runners up in the national provincial playoffs will then join KBF Division Two for men and Division One for women.”
“The NBA playoffs are in the semi finals phase. The best of five game series is tentatively set to end on December 5 but can end earlier depending on how the series goes,” said Owino.
The semifinal results over the weekend saw Safe Spaces, Stanbic Bank, Moischers and Clique Mambas take 1-0 series leads.
In the ladies’ semis, Safe Spaces beat Dream Girls 44-36 where Florence Mbithe and Millicent Ouma scored 10 goals a piece.
The other match saw Stanbic Bank dismiss Olympic Tigress 31-23 despite the losers’ Marsha Roseline notching 12 points.
In them men’s category, Moischers continued their unbeaten run in the season with a 82-61 victory over Allstars.
Abdulahi Said shot 21 points as Jeff Onyango and Wycliffe Rayasi added 17 each. Allstars’ Irungu Maina scored 13 and Brayan Mwalo made 10.
The other game saw Clique Mambas defeat Africa’s Dream 62-57 in a fiercely contested game. Williams Onditi provided 22 points and Duke Mairura 15 for the winners Clinton Lijondo hit the losers’ 15.
