Africa-Press – Kenya. Swimming stakeholders converge on Saturday at Moi Stadium, Kasarani to ratify a new constitution and election board ahead of the long-awaited Kenya Swimming Federation polls on July 8.

Fina Stabilisation Committee secretariat team leader Michael Otieno said two delegates per county and two delegates per club will be involved in the exercise which will set the ball rolling for the polls during a Special General Assembly in a fortnight.

“We will have representation from both counties and clubs. We are looking forward to a fruitful exercise to allow the elections board to fulfill their mandate of having a credible election,” noted Otieno.

World Aquatics have already given the Stabilisation Committee the go-ahead to oversee the elections despite the mandate of the team ending at the end of June.

He added that the list of delegates from both counties and clubs will be released by the end of the week. “I hope to get the lists out by the end of this week,” added Otieno.

Once the elections board is inaugurated, they will jump into vetting the candidates, a process aimed at ensuring the electoral process is above board.

“I do believe we have adequate time between now and July 8 to plan for a free and fair election to allow the sport to return to normalcy under duly-elected office bearers,” observed Otieno

Nairobi County secretary Kenneth Karani hopes for a speedy conclusion to the woes that have affected the sport for the last couple of years. “We are glad we have the date for the election. It’s a race against time but if the stakeholders work with the speed, we will hold the polls,” said Karani.
