Africa-Press – Kenya. Richard Ngatia has gotten the backing of governors in his bid to retain his position as the president of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
KNCCI is set to hold its elections on June 8 with Ngatia seeking reelection for another term. And he got a big boost in that bid after Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru joined other leaders in endorsing his re-election bid. Waiguru expressed her unwavering confidence in the leadership of Ngatia and his running mate businessman Abdulwalli Shariff Ahmed.
“We discussed potential collaboration to enhance Kirinyaga’s development plan, through direct industrial investments, and access to export markets,” Waiguru told reporters in Kutus town after a meeting with both Ngatia and Ahmed at her office.
Ngatia and Ahmed were accompanied by KNCCI regional officials when they paid the Kirinyaga governor a courtesy call on Thursday. Ngatia said it was an incredibly proud moment for all of the team.
“Her Excellency Governor Anne Waiguru has emphasized the importance of unity,” he said.
He said Waiguru’s endorsement serves as a testament to the exceptional work that its team has been doing and reinforces its commitment to serving the business community. He said during the discussion, several critical areas were addressed, including the pressing matter of pending bills.
“We understand the significance of this issue and will work diligently to find effective solutions, ensuring the smooth functioning of businesses in our country,” Ngatia said. Waiguru also highlighted the need for collaboration between the chamber and the counties.
On Wednesday, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi endorsed Ngatia and his team known as the ‘Volcano Squad” for a second term in the upcoming polls.
Ngatia will be running against the chamber’s vice president Eric Rutto. Wetang’ula and Mudavadi both pledged their support for Ngatia’s bid when he and his chambers regional leaders paid them a courtesy call at their respective offices.
