Africa-Press – Kenya. Persons eyeing seats at the upcoming elections of the National Olympics Committee-Kenya will have to adhere to a code of conduct while campaigning.
The rules were adopted during an extraordinary session of the general assembly of the committee, which was held virtually.
NOC-K acting secretary general Francis Mutuku said the code of conduct ensures fairness and credibility of the voting process as well as the results.
“This is part of our continuous process of involving all the members in the steps towards the elections by building consensus and unity of purpose. We also want to ensure that all the election process is all-inclusive, fair and free to all the interested candidates,” Mutuku said.
Mutuku promised the code of conduct will be strictly adhered to and that no one will be allowed to violate it.
“The Extraordinary Session noted that the Code of Conduct was timely and gave Centre for Corporate Governance the Electoral Board assurance of their support and the authority necessary to enforce strict adherence of the same,” he said.
“Candidates interested in the various NOCK Executive Committee positions were also requested to continue campaigning in a transparent and fair manner devoid of mudslinging and slander.”
Thirteen positions will be up for grabs during the elections, held every four years. They include President; First Deputy President; Second Deputy President; Secretary-General; Deputy Secretary-General; Treasurer; Deputy Treasurer; Male athlete representative; Female athlete representative; Woman representative and three members.
