Africa-Press – Kenya. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said he will form a Judicial Commission to hold an inquiry into the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif.

He said the aim was to determine how events led to his killing and get justice.

“I have decided to form a Judicial Commission to hold an inquiry into the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif in order to determine the facts of the tragic incident in a transparent and conclusive manner,” he said.

On Monday Shehbaz said he had a telephone conversation with President William Ruto who promised him “all-out help including fast-tracking the process of return of the body to Pakistani”.

Police said in a statement that Sharif was shot on Sunday night in Kajiado county by GSU officers in a case of mistaken identity.

They said the officers were tracking a stolen car when suddenly the car Sharif was riding in with his brother Khurram Ahmed on the wheel appeared.

They said the driver defied orders to stop prompting police to give chase and shoot at the vehicle.

Sharif died on the spot after he was hit by the head while his brother sustained injuries and is hospitalised.

Police spokesman Bruno Shioso released a statement saying the National Police Service regrets the incident.

“National Police Service regrets this unfortunate incident. Competent authorities are currently investigating the incident for appropriate action,” Shioso said.
