Pilishi: UOE Queens dreaming of playoffs in North Rift League

Africa-Press – Kenya. The University of Eldoret (UOE) Queens are eyeing the play-offs in the North Rift League in order to earn promotion to the Division One league next season.

UOE sit second in the 17-team league behind leaders Kakuma Kalobeyei. The Josephat Pilishi-coached side has accumulated 22 points, eight fewer than Kakuma that boast of 30 points from 10 matches.

Pilishi maintained that they are burning the midnight oil to bridge the gap with the Turkana-based side. The team however, faces an uphill task to achieve their target considering that only one team will make it to the playoffs.

The varsity side has managed seven wins, one draw and one loss in 10 encounters. “It was the lowest moment for us, losing 7-1 to Kalobeyei on June 8. We however, learnt lessons and rectified our mistakes as the battle for promotion takes shape. There’s improvement in defence and midfield,” Pilishi said.

UOE beat Mama Mboga FC 3-1 at their backyard last weekend with Yvonne Chepkwemoi bagging a brace before Maurine Juma sealed the emphatic victory for the visiting Queens.

“The only target I have is a division one playoff spot where only one top team will qualify into the play-off,” said Pilishi. The winners in the North Rift will face off with their South Rift leaders for a slot in the second tier come the 2023-24 season.
