Powerful CS Promised Me Millions For Threatening Uhuru - Didmus Barasa

Africa-Press – Kenya. Kimilili MP, Didmus Barasa, has for the first time, shed light on events preceding his fallout with Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, January 13, the Legislator, who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, claimed that he fell out with Wamalwa who betrayed him.

Barasa explained that Wamalwa approached him in 2017 when the CS realised that he was not named as a member of President Uhuru Kenyatta Cabinet.

“Immediately President Uhuru Kenyatta won his re-election in 2017, he named his partial cabinet. Eugene Wamalwa was missing and all the media houses reported that he had been sacked.

“Eugene called me to a meeting at a restaurant in Westlands. He was literally crying for being left out of the cabinet. He told me that the President had told him that he (Uhuru) was going to appoint him as an Ambassador to Uganda, stationed at Kampala,” he stated.

Further, Barasa alleged that Wamalwa asked him to assemble all the Jubliee MPs from Western and threaten the President that they would decamp to then-NASA (National Super Alliance under Raila Odinga) if he was not appointed to the cabinet.

Barasa revealed that he honoured Wamalwa’s wish and Uhuru was coerced into retaining him as CS.

After being appointed, the CS reportedly proposed to buy him a black Land Cruiser that was on sale at Ksh11 million. Wamalwa, according to Barasa, agreed to fund Ksh4 million after the MP raised Ksh7 million.

The CS asked an aide to accompany Barasa to a car yard near Yaya Center where he was given the car and relevant documents after paying Ksh7 million.

According to Barasa, the CS agreed to clear the balance as a token of appreciation. However, Wamalwa reneged on his promise and this led to the fallout between the two leaders.

“The balance of Ksh4.2 million was to be paid by Eugene Wamalwa for my hand in having Uhuru reappoint him to Cabinet,” he added.

In 2019, the company that sold Barasa the high-end car moved to court seeking to declare him bankrupt.

The firm claimed that the Legislator had failed to pay the outstanding balance of the Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle he purchased in 2017.

Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa has not yet responded to the allegations.
