Africa-Press – Kenya. Prepare for hustler fund ahead of its launch on December 1 by President William Ruto, ICT CS Eliud Owalo has told Nyanza residents.
Owalo said the community must position themselves towards the national government, to benefit from low hanging fruits and long-term developments.
He spoke in Muhoroni on Friday when he led the distribution of government relief food to residents of Koru.
The CS said the fund will unlock a number of opportunities for youth and women and uplift the welfare of people within the region.
He said youths within the region are jobless not because thy have not gone to school but are in dire need of funds to start something for themselves and earn a living.
“We even have women who are gifted in business but the problem is that they don’t have capital to start,” Owalo said.
The CS however said those interested in the fund must put structures in place to benefit once it is rolled out by the President.
He said nobody should find fault with the fund since it is a national government project, that was pledged by the President during the electioneering period.
Former Kisumu senator Fred Outa who accompanied the CS said Ruto means well for the community as he calls for a break from the mental capture.
Outa said the new administration has a five-year mandate that can be prolonged in an election in the year 2027 and it is prudent for the community to board the ship.
“Election is over, let’s not take much of our time discussing politics, but let us embrace the new government and seek for development,” he said.
Outa added that he has his foot in the government not for selfish gain but to push for the development of the region, which is endowed with good agricultural land.
“Sugarcane industry and rice farming remains the mainstay of residents,” Outa said as he asked the government to revive the sector, which has the potential to economically empower the region.
Other leaders who accompanied the CS included former Migori and Kisumu governors Okoth Obado and Jack Ranguma respectively and a host of former MPs.
The leaders called for a united community to propel their bargaining power in getting the national cake, for the benefit of the entire community.
This was the second leg of food distribution in the region having first covered Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu and Siaya subcounties.
A set of subcounties are lined up for the second disbursement in Muhoroni, Gem and Bondo.
