Promotions in public service should be on measured deliverable performance – Mudavadi

Africa-Press – Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has affirmed that promotions in the public service should be based on measured deliverable performance.

Mudavadi urged youths to be agents of change by being transformative public service leaders.

“I believe that through hard work, public servants should be able to rise to the highest ranks. Promotion in the public service should, therefore, be based on measured deliverable performance, which is the product of hard work,” Mudavadi said.

He spoke during the graduation of the inaugural cohort and the commissioning of the second group of the Public Service Emerging Leaders Fellowship programme in Nairobi.

During the event, 51 youths graduated and 65 others joined the programme.

Mudavadi said the government is ensuring youths benefit from critical knowledge of the values of the public service systems and leadership skills.

He said the public service internship programme and the public service emerging leaders fellowship programme are some of the initiatives targeting the youth and their role in better public service management.

“They are a clear indication that the Commission has the pulse on emerging trends in the public service and the importance of youth. I associate closely with the two initiatives because I am a firm believer in professional public service,” Mudavadi said.

He said the programme seeks to build the next generation of public sector leaders capable of providing transformative solutions to pressing policy issues.

Mudavadi said that the initiative instils a co-creative mindset approach and practice in policy implementation and citizen-centric service delivery.

“We believe that developing young leaders is important for our success. It is deliberate to prepare you and place you on a conscious journey that entails a mind shift, learning capability, honesty and skills to conceive emerging problems from a ‘birds-eye-view’ perspective,” he said.

Mudavadi said that citizen-centricity and good governance are two virtues that aim at providing a fair environment for all Kenyans and the ability to provide services effectively and efficiently.

President William Ruto inaugurated the fifth cohort of the public service internship programme in March.

Mudavadi urged youths to be change agents and transform the country.

“Let not this investment go to waste. I look forward to knowing you are part of something big for the public service and the country. I cannot wait to see what it will be. But you are the leaders, you are the owners of your vision and power,” he said.
