Raila should face terrorism charges - UDA demands

Africa-Press – Kenya. UDA now wants Azimio leader Raila Odinga to face terrorism charges following the violence witnessed on Wednesday during Opposition demonstrations. Addressing a press conference at party headquarters, party chair Cecil Mbarire termed Raila as “lord of violence” and said the government must stop treating the opposition chief with clean gloves.

“What he is doing is tantamount to terrorism against the people he is purporting to be acting for,” she said.

Mbarire added that Raila and the people who meted violence should face terrorism charges. She said the demonstrations are not about the cost of living but an act of economic sabotage.

“It is a scheme to bulldoze his way into government because these demonstrations are not peaceful anymore,” she added.

She further said the economy loses an estimated Sh3 billion on a day of demonstrations. UDA secretary general Cleophas Malalah said people must not die for Raila to achieve his political ambitions.

“Some things cannot change. William Ruto is the president of Kenya until 2027 when we go for another election,” he said.

Malalah added that the Opposition should not hide behind the high cost of living to sabotage the Kenya Kwanza administration. “The cost of living is a problem everywhere. We will not allow it to continue,” he stated.

Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wa wondered how Raila is concerned about the cost of living when he leads chaotic demonstrations.

“We have seen the hands of sponsors in this violence. They mobilised gangs of Mungiki to cause destruction in several parts of the country,” he added.

He said the government should ensure Raila, his sponsor and the goons face the full force of the law. Nandi senator Samson Cherargei said they are documenting details of the violence which will be presented to the ICC.

He added that they are also planning to hold peaceful sit-ins at the residences of Raila and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. “We will be very peaceful and ask them to tell us why they are doing this to Kenyans,” Cherargei stated.
