Africa-Press – Kenya. Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement is facing a political headache with most of its loyalists in Kajiado trooping to the United Democratic Alliance.

Governor Joseph Lenku took the lead when he ignored calls by Raila’s Azimo coalition for demonstrations and instead embraced President William Ruto. During the inauguration of the Kenya Urban Forum 2023 in Naivasha last week, President Ruto spoke of Lenku several times in his speech.

When President Ruto appointed Former Governor David Nkedianye to serve in his government, two weeks ago, Lenku was the first to laud the president. The governor also congratulated Nkedianye, calling him “my brother”.

Several days later, Nkedianye and some of his close allies officially crossed over from Jubilee Party to UDA. Nkedianye’s team was received by the party’s secretary-general Cleophas Malala during a convention at the Bush Camp Resort in Kajiado town.

Other leaders who moved with Nkedianye to UDA included Marina Kelly (Jubilee), Jonathan Meijo (Chama Cha Kazi), Douglas Keton, Parsimei Gitau (Jubilee) and Johnson Osoi (Jubilee).

Others were scores of former MCAs who lost their seats in the last general election. The realignment of the UDA in Kajiado, which used to form ODM’s vote basket, is now sliding away to the ruling party.
