Rangers vow to stop Brewers in mid-week match tomorrow

Africa-Press – Kenya. Posta Rangers have vowed to play the crucial role of kingmakers in this year’s Kenyan Premier League title race. The mailmen have a crunch tie against defending champions Tusker at Ruaraka Complex in Nairobi on Wednesday and the brewers need to bag maximum points to topple leaders Gor Mahia from the apex of the log.

However, in a tough speech made during a luncheon hosted by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo at a Nairobi hotel on Monday, Rangers’ head coach John Kamau vowed to make life unbearable for their opponents.

Kamau said they will jut out all their claws in a vicious fashion to shatter the Brewers’ dream of a second successive and 12th overall title. “I’m not accustomed to playing the role of a flower girl. We are going for a win on Wednesday. We can’t afford to lose the tie,” Kamau said.

“We have prepared adequately for the match and we can assure Tusker that they will experience a very long day on the pitch,” he added.

Gor currently lead the league proceedings with 67 points, two ahead of their Ruaraka-based opponents. Both teams have only two matches apiece to conclude the season with the title already headed to the wire

Posta Rangers skipper Bernard Ondiek sent a chilly message to their opponents, warning them to prepare for the “mother of all battles”. “We want nothing short of a win on Wednesday. Tusker should notb think it will be a walk in the park. The financial reward we have received today is a major boost ahead of the tie.”

Speaking during the function, CS Owalo urged Posta to stamp authority in the match, promising them a fortune if they prevail over their opponents. Owalo gifted the players Sh200,000 to motivate them ahead of the crunch tie.

“It’s my pleasure to be here as a soccer fan. I’ve been monitoring your progress very well. As the defending KECOSO champions, we want to encourage you to defend the title. We also want to encourage you to charge for the league title at some point,” Owalo said.

“Do us proud by winning the Tusker match. You’ll be rewarded handsomely if you beat Tusker,” he added.

Posta Rangers’ patron John Tonui said they would clear all the pending allowances to inject some zest into the playing unit. “We must win all the matches against Tusker and Bandari. We are clearing all the allowances totaling Sh420,000 before the matches.”

Chairman Rose Nyaminga urged the team to fight for their rightful place on the top flight stage. “We must make sure that we go back to where we were before.”
