Relief as production of passports resumes

Africa-Press – Kenya. It was a relief for Kenyans after the Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that the processing of passports had resumed. In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry assured Kenyans that they are obligated to fulfilling their mandate.

“The Directorate of Immigration Services wish to express its commitment to serve Kenyans. In fulfilling this mandate, we remain open to facilitate urgent passport processing,” reads the statement.

It added that immigrants who need their services urgently should contact the Immigration Department and provide documentary proof of urgency. The ministry had on Tuesday announced that the passport printers had broken down amid a rising backlog.

The department had said their staff was working round the clock to reinstall normal services and to clear the backlog of pending passport applications.

“Applicants seeking urgent passports are reminded to contact us with documentary proof of urgency,” they said, amid uproar from a section of Kenyans.
