Remember you are to serve, not rule - Mudavadi tells Cabinet

Africa-Press – Kenya. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has appealed to CSs and PSs to serve the public unconditionally rather than use their positions for personal gain.

Warning them that Kenyans are watching and determined in the quest to transform the trajectory of the country’s prosperity, Mudavadi said it is time the country dealt with corruption decisively.

“Remember we serve in trust and we must earn the trust of citizens by honest, diligent and patriotic work. Remember, you are from the most senior ranks of the Executive. This makes you the highest-ranked ambassador of government. You must be the first to be inspired so that you can, in turn, inspire Kenyans to also be honest, diligent and patriotic,” he said.

He added: “Greed for material wealth in government drives us into corruption and prevents us from realizing our full potential as a people and as a nation.”

He spoke on Friday, during the second day of the ongoing Cabinet retreat in Nanyuki. Mudavadi emphasized that it was time for public officers to commit to their mandates as they promised during the campaign time.

He added that government officers must understand the needs of Kenyans and coin solutions for them. “The Greek saying that says: “A society only truly prospers when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never rest,” should guide us,” he said.

“The inherent wisdom is that our actions today, have a tremendous impact not so much on ourselves but eternally on future generations of Kenyans.”

The PCS further challenged the officials to be wary of temptations that will derail them from the commitments to deliver on the promises made by the Kenya Kwanza team.

“We must, henceforth, approach our work selflessly, knowing that the destinies of millions of our fellow citizens are in our hands. Always remember you serve, not rule,” Mudavadi said.

“Do not to use State Office for personal glorification, gain or to massage egos. Let us continually seek the inspiration of citizens and act in their interest. Learn to listen. The perception of you by the people you serve is critical to your success.”
