Rising Starlets face Uganda as they seek to qualify for World Cup

Africa-PressKenya. Kenya’s women’s Under-20 national team, Rising Starlets face Uganda on Saturday in the Fifa World Cup qualifiers at Nyayo Stadium.

The 2022 junior show will be held in Costa Rica. The juniors have to overcome their neighbours first in order to boost their chances of going deep in the qualifiers before realising their World Cup dream.

The return leg is set for October 8 in Uganda. National team coach Charles Okere said the qualifiers will offer a perfect opportunity for the technical bench to assess the players with a view to promoting them to the Starlets squad.

“It is the best opportunity for us to see what we have at the youth level. We will try to incorporate young players whose future is to transition to the senior team.”

“Our target is to make it to the World Cup and we are optimistic Harambee Starlets can savour their chance and make a historic appearance to the quadrennial event.”

Okere said the team is a blend of youths and experience and will work towards their cohesion. “We are keen to have the players gel as a team because the chemistry will help them fight as a unit.”
