Roots party dismisses Ngunyi's claims on being 'funded' by Azimio

Africa-Press – Kenya. The Roots Party has now dismissed claims that it was funded by Azimio operatives ahead of William Ruto’s manifesto launch to draw all attention from him.

In a statement seen by the Star, the party has dismissed the claims by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s technical adviser Mutahi Ngunyi.

The party said the claims are baseless and that it does not subscribe to the politics of tokenism.

“These remarks are baseless, unfounded and an insult to our party. Roots party is a National party and does not subscribe to tokenism,” the statement reads.

The Prof. George Wajackoyah-led party insisted that it is committed to the economic liberation of Kenyans, calling out Ngunyi for using it to please President Ruto, whom he recently pledged allegiance to.

In his revelation, Ngunyi claimed they funded Wajackoyah’s manifesto launch to happen simultaneously with Ruto’s because they wanted to irritate him.

Their goal was to draw all attention from Ruto’s manifesto launch. He was at the time deputy president.

“We funded George Wajackoyah’s launch and the way we did it, we wanted it to be launched the on the same day Ruto was doing his launch and our thinking was that Ruto is of choleric temper so I was to do this as a way of irritating him. When you are on the screens you have half screen, Wajackoyah speaking here and Ruto speaking here and that’s what happened,” Ngunyi said on NTV.

In the election, Azimio was backed by the state which was headed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
