Africa-Press – Kenya. The Kenya Rugby Union has suspended Kabras Sugar player Jone Kubu for 11 weeks for stamping a Strathmore Leo’s opponent.
The union said on Monday via a statement on Twitter that Kubu will serve the suspension for the offence committed during the Christie 7’s tournament semifinal against the Strathmore Leos.
“Jone Kubu (Kabras Sugar) has been suspended for 11 weeks after being cited for stamping during the Christie 7’s semifinal against the Strathmore Leos on Sunday (August 13, 2023),” KRU said.
“The 11-week suspension when applied in Sevens rugby translates to 11 matches and took effect from the Christie 7s third-place playoff,” the union explained.
Stamping is considered a form of physical abuse in sports alongside other acts such as biting, punching, contact with the eye or eye area, striking with any part of the arm, shoulder, head, or knee (s), trampling, tripping, or kicking.
It is considered as dangerous play and players are always cautioned against doing anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship.
For instance, players are not allowed to tackle an opponent early, late or when they are not in possession of the ball or jump into, or over a tackler.
