Africa-Press – Kenya. Deputy President William Ruto has received more than 1,000 votes in Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s Kibra polling station.

According to the IEBC portal, Ruto garnered 1,947 votes in Raila’s Old Kibra Primary School, Nairobi.

Raila received 2,632 votes.

Agano party leader Waihiga Mwaure received four votes while Roots party leader George Wajakoyah garnered 16 votes.

The Old Kibra Primary School recorded a 56.5 per cent turnout during the Tuesday vote.

When he went to cast his vote on Tuesday, Raila received a triumphant welcome from his die-hard supporters.

Most displayed their fingers as a sign that they had voted while others had nothing to show for it.

However, even with this assurance, only 4,000 showed up to cast their ballots out of 7,071 registered voters in 12 streams.

The tallying of vote is currently taking place in different areas with the IEBC uploading the forms on their portal.

The election looks like it will be a tight race between frontrunners Raila and Ruto.

The IEBC has so far received Forms 34As from 44,768 out of 46,229 polling stations across the country. This was as of 12.39pm.

The forms have been uploaded onto the commission’s results portal accessible to the public.

However, IEBC has not displayed results from the polling stations.

Last evening, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the commission will tally the results after verifying the physical Form 34As.

The returning officers are expected to start delivering the physical documents to the National Tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya.
