Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has vowed to crush Azimio Leader Raila Odinga’s fresh wave of protests next week, telling him to hold them in his house. The head of State, who spoke on Friday in Naivasha, warned Raila that he will not allow demonstrations that Azimio has planned for three days next week.
Raila’s coalition announced on Friday that they will go to the streets for three days from Wednesday to Friday in the coming week. “I will stand strong. I will not move an inch. Kenya is for all of us. It is not for demos,” Ruto said in Kinamba.
“You can only do demos in your house. If you want to burn anything then burn your house. Do all these things in your house, not anywhere else.”
The President said he will stand firm against what he termed as a scheme by Raila to seek a share of the government through the infamous handshake. “We know that he wants to share the government with us. But I will meet him head-on,” Ruto declared.
“You can’t use extra-constitutional means to get power. You want to use violence to get into government; it won’t happen,” he added. Ruto spoke moments after Raila announced the resumption of protests from next week Wednesday to Friday.
“Going forward, protests will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week in line with a request from members of the public to include a three-day activity,” he announced.
