Ruto: We must protect Kenya by all means

Africa-Press – Kenya. President William Ruto has vowed to ensure that Kenya’s democracy is jealously protected by all Kenyans.

Speaking in Isiolo on Thursday, Ruto challenged Kenyans to work with him to build the country by rejecting violence.

Taking as swipe at the opposition protests that have rocked the country, Ruto said Kenyans had affirmed that they will not sabotage their economy by shunning the demonstrations.

“Every part of Kenya has said that we cannot sabotage our economy, using violence, destruction of property and businesses,” Ruto said.

Lauding Kenyans for standing firm and rejecting the pressure to join in the demonstrations, the President said the country’s peace and stability are critical.

“Kenya is the only place we have to call home, we must protect it by all means. We must protect our democracy, we must protect the peace in our country because it is the collective responsibility of all of us as citizens,” he said.

Ruto was addressing roadshow rallies during his development tour of Isiolo where he promised to inject Sh250 million for an economic zone and aggregation centre.

“We want to make Isiolo the centre for livestock production and productivity,” he said.

Earlier, Ruto warned Azimio Leader Raila Odinga against sponsoring what he termed anarchy, telling him that political contests are settled at the ballot.

“I want to tell our good friends that the people of Kenya have spoken loudly and clearly that they do not want chaos, they don’t want violence, they don’t want anarchy, they don’t want the destruction of property and businesses,” Ruto said.

“The people of Kenya have said we are a democratic country, we respect the votes of ordinary citizens and when the people of Kenya have spoken it is like God has spoken.”
