Sakaja: There's no blood between my boss DP Gachagua and I

Africa-Press – Kenya. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has said there is no bad blood between him and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Sakaja while addressing congregants in Roysambu on Sunday, said, there are people who have tried to speculate that the two have a problem, which is not the case

“Being a Deputy President is not easy, Gachagua is my boss and mentor, we will work together because we have an agenda in Kenya Kwanza,” he said.

“Saa hii wakituona tunacheka na yeye, wanaskia kiwaru.”

He also urged Gachagua to spread his wings of mentorship to other parts of the country, not only in the Mt Kenya region, as youths across the country needed his mentorship.

“As the Deputy President, mentor all the youths. Don’t be limited, you’re bigger than just Central Province, youth from Rift Valley, Western, and Kakamega need your mentorship,” Sakaja said.

He said the DP last week already demonstrated mentorship by telling couples that he gives his wife Sh3000 for salon. “You gave us mentorship last week. Some of us were using so much money on salon expenses. But we have been told it is Sh3000,” Sakaja said.

Speculations have been on the rise that Sakaja and Gachagua were not seeing eye to eye over their different opinion on decongesting Nairobi’s Central Business District.

In December 2022, Sakaja announced that long-distance matatu will be relocated from the CBD to Green Park terminus. However, according to the DP, Sakaja ought to have consulted him before making decisions, which affect the businesses of the people of Mt Kenya – who gave him votes.

On December 20, 2022, Gachagua warned Sakaja against implementing the plan to relocate matatus. He termed the move as ill-intentioned which he claimed was aimed at persecuting the business community from Mt Kenya, adding that it will disrupt businesses.
