Africa-Press – Kenya. A new champion in the women’s category will be crowned during the annual Mombasa hockey tournament in the absence of Strathmore Scorpions at Mombasa Sports Club this weekend

While Kenya Police will seek to defend the men’s title they won in 2019, Scorpions are unavailable for this year’s showpiece. The varsity side is preparing for the Kenya University Sports Association Games set for next week at Kibabi University, Bungoma.

“We would have loved to be part of the Mombasa tournament but we have other commitments,” Scorpions coach Meshack Senge said.

“We want to reclaim the KUSA title we won in 2019. Last year, we finished second so we want to show our rivals we are still a force to reckon with.”

Kenya Police highlight men’s six-team Pool ‘A’ as Western Jaguars topped Pool ‘B’. Mombasa West, Daikyo Heroes, Tankers, Underdogs, and KMXV are the other teams in Pool ‘A’.

Jaguars have been pitted against Park road, Taskforce, Sharks, Mvita, and MSC.

The women’s game will be played in a round-robin format after only five teams registered for the event.

Record national champions Blazers have another opportunity to claim silverware as they face Amira, MSC, Swans, and KMXV respectively.

The coastal competition makes a comeback following a year-long break because of the covid-19 pandemic.
