Senator Ledama Criticizes Active Cabinet Secretaries

Africa-Press – Kenya. Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has criticised Cabinet Secretaries who publicly engage in politics despite holding national offices. In a statement, Ledama maintained that for members of the Cabinet, politics should end the day they take the oath of office.

He argued that some Cabinet Secretaries appear to focus more on politics than policy directives, which should be their primary role. The Senator compared Kenya’s political climate to that of the United Arab Emirates, noting that the Gulf nation continues to advance development while Kenya remains preoccupied with political debates.

“Cabinet Secretaries, politics ends when you take office. Look at the UAE: a desert building a nation, while we politic 24/7. How do you expect Kenyans to survive the future? Cut it out,” he said.

His remarks followed comments made in Garissa by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who said the days of one community feeling superior to another were over with the advent of devolution and the new constitution.

“The days of entitlement that one community is more important than any other community are gone after the new constitution,” Duale said.

Former Economic Adviser to the President, Moses Kuria, also weighed in, criticising what he described as generalisations that portray some communities as considering themselves superior to others.

“In the recent past, I have listened to a number of leaders allege that there is a community that thinks it is more superior than others. Some of us have unapologetically said no to returning this country to the politics of negative ethnicity,” Kuria said.

He added that individuals should not be judged collectively based on their ethnicity. “If you have a problem with any individual from the Mt Kenya community, do not take it out against an entire people,” he said. Kuria further cautioned that divisive rhetoric risks pushing the country towards instability.
