Africa-Press – Kenya. Shabana reclaimed top spot in the National Super League after a 3-0 win over Darajani Gogo at Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi.

Peter Ogechi scored a brace in the 44th and 70th minutes with Nehemiah Ochiri aka Neymar wrapping up the scores with five minutes remaining.

Ogechi, 33, scaled his goal tally to 14 this season and is Shabana’s top scorer. SS Assad’s Beja Nyamawi is the top scorer in the league with 18 goals followed by Amos Kigadi of Vihiga United with 17.

The game was attended by thousands of Shabana’s Nairobi-based fans.

Shabana moves to the top of the log with 67 points from 29 matches leap-frogging Murang’a Seal, three points behind.

Shabana and Murang’a Seal have already qualified for the Kenyan Premier League. Shabana will be in action next on Wednesday when they take on Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Gusii Stadium.

Shabana was boosted on Thursday when Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu helped raise Sh1.5 million during a luncheon for the team at the Bomas of Kenya. Kisii Governor Simba Arati was Friday evening also expected to host the team for dinner.

Machogu who was accompanied by several leaders announced that he will organise a major funds drive for the club before the beginning of next season.

Third-placed Mara Sugar battled to a barren draw against Mombasa Elites at Mbaraki Sports ground in Mombasa. Mara Sugar missed a chance to open a three-point gap in the battle for a playoff position.

Mara remain third with 54 points while Migori Youth are fourth with 53. Migori Youth will be in action on Saturday against Gusii FC at Migori Stadium.

MCF thrashed Kibera Black Stars 4-1 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Eric Michupu, John Ochieng’ Joshua Ratemo and Mrwambura Rama scored for MCF while Jesse Okoth scored Kibera’s consolation goal.

In other fixtures lined up for Saturday, troubled Silibwet Leons will host Naivas while SS Assad welcomes Mwatate United at Shamu grounds in Kwale County.
