Africa-Press – Kenya. Shujaa trounced Scotland 20 -10 to book their spot in the quarterfinals of the Los Angeles Sevens on Saturday.
Kenya out-scored the Scots by four tries to two to end a five-match losing streak against them. Kenya will face Australia at 8:13 pm on Sunday in the last eight.
Try scorers for Kenya were Sammy Oliech, skipper Nelson Oyoo, Vincent Onyala and Billy Odhiambo. Kareem Baretto and Duncan Ferguson scored for the Scots. The two sides were tied at 10-10 at the break.
Shujaa had a mixed start to the Los Angeles sevens at the Dignity Health Sports park on Saturday
They had lost their opening game 33-14 to Samoa but bounced back to beat England 19-14
Shujaa had a false start in their opening match with Samoa as the Pacific Islanders tore them to shreds with Vaa Maliko carving them twice in the opening minutes for a 14-0 lead before Uaine Sione crashed over the line for a third try and a 19-0 lead at the interval.
Shujaa regrouped in the second half and Daniel Taabu went on to beat three defenders to score and convert the try to reduce the margin to 19-7.
Willy Ambaka then showed his class combining with Taabu to touch down under the posts with Taabu converting for Samoa to lead 19-14
Samoa stepped up a gear in the closing minutes with two tries from Melani Matavao and Taanuu Niulevaea ending hopes of a Kenyan comeback.
In the match against England, Billy Odhiambo scored his 100th try for Shujaa with Vincent Onyala and Willy Ambala scoring once each as Kenya led 12-0 to record a memorable result.
