Stop attacking Kalonzo, Mutua cautions Kivutha

Africa-Press – Kenya. Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua has hit out at former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, after he censured Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Mutua on Monday said Kivutha should stop ‘attacking’ Kalonzo and let the Kamba community be free to choose their kingpin.

“I urge my one-time teacher @ProfKibwana to sheathe his sword against @skmusyoka,” he said.

“If large swaths of Akamba follow SKM, it’s either because they like him, he’s a good salesman, they’ve no alternative or they’ve chosen ethnic politics. But the Akamba are exercising free agency.”

The political commentator’s remarks come shortly after Kivutha told off Kalonzo over his plans to vie for the presidency in the 2027 elections. In a series of tweets, Kivutha bashed Kalonzo on his recent remarks where he asked Kenyans to pray for him as he embarks on popularising his 2027 presidential bid.

“I lived through three stolen elections in 2013, 2017 and 2022. Please pray for me to get out of prison,” Kalonzo said on Sunday.

Kivutha further said the former Vice President was preparing for an end game that he knows will fail so that he could earn a retirement political investment.

“You are preparing for your end game of a 2027 presidential bid (knowing you will fail) in which your community gives you elected governors/MPs/Senators/ MCAs so that you end up with a retirement political investment,” he said.

The former governor disclosed that he is praying that the Akamba community “will not be gullible.” Kalonzo, who has thrice shelved his presidential ambition for ODM leader Raila Odinga, said in a recent interview that he is “wiser” now.

“What is obvious in the event we are still around God willing and my party nominates me to run, I will run like I have never run before,” he said. Kalonzo supported Raila during 2013, 2017 and 2022 general elections.
