Africa-Press – Kenya. The African Judges and Jurists Forum has commended the Supreme court for its management of the presidential petition.

The court on Monday upheld President-elect William Ruto’s win at the August 9 general election saying he was validly elected in accordance with the Constitution.

“The mission would like to commend the Supreme Court, particularly in light of the complexity of the matter, which was evidenced by the fact that this was the first time it was handling seven presidential petitions, with multiple volumes of evidence,” head of mission, Retired Chief Justice of Tanzania Chande Othman said.

He said the live streaming of the court proceedings allowed Kenyans to follow the proceedings despite the limited access to the court premises.

“The mission would like to express its appreciation to the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Lady Justice Martha Koome, and the Judges of the Supreme Court for allowing access to court premises to observe the trial and for their kind hospitality during the court sessions,” he added.

The jurists spoke on completion of their election observer mission with a verdict that the election was generally peaceful and were also pleased to that all the election contenders embraced the judicial process which speaks to their confidence in it.

The group which arrived in Kenya on August 28 also comprised of Justice Henry Boissie Mbha of the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa, Justice Moses Chinhengo, Justice of the Court of Appeal of Lesotho, Lady Justice Lillian Tibatemwa-Ekirikubinza of the Supreme Court of Uganda, and Lady Justice Ivy Kamanga of the Supreme Court of Appeal of Malawi.
