Africa-Press – Kenya. Social media platform Twitter on Wednesday through its blog announced that is allowing advertisers to use their space to market cannabis.
The changes by the company make it the first social media platform to allow cannabis adverts in the United States.
According to the company’s blog, the relaxation of its Cannabis ads policy will have some restrictions that vary depending on a country’s laws and licensing.
The policy is active in Canada and some states in the United States of America.
“Going forward, Twitter is allowing advertisers to promote brand preference and informational cannabis-related content for CBD, THC, and cannabis-related products and services,” the blog read.
Twitter noted that the cannabis industry has grown and through that so has the conversation of cannabis and related products increased on Twitter.
The company added that conversations centred on cannabis have surpassed topics such as pets, cooking golf and food and beverage.
“The cannabis space on Twitter is fun and engaging with users tweeting about their experiences using cannabis – whether medicinally, for wellness, or recreation – as well as recommending brands, products, and retail locations,” the blog reads.
“The conversation also reflects where the cannabis industry is currently heading: legislative/policy reform, business development, and community impact.”
