Africa-Press – Kenya. The United Democratic Alliance party has assured its members of a free and fair exercise ahead of the grassroots elections.

Secretary general Cleophas Malala said the elections will be conducted digitally, noting that it is a milestone in the democracy of the country.

“I want to assure you that the UDA elections which are set to begin on 26 will be free and fair. UDA is the first party to conduct grassroots elections from the polling centres to the nationals,” he said on Saturday.

Malala called on Kenyans who aspire to be leaders to take the opportunity to build their leadership ambition.

UDA plans to hold phased grasroots elections in select counties this month ahead of county and national-level elections later in the year.

On Tuesday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua held talks with the leadership of the UDA party ahead of planned grassroots elections.

Gachagua said the meeting was founded on consultative and collaborative engagements geared at strengthening the party and solidifying the resolve to fully implement the UDA Manifesto.

The meeting came a week after President William Ruto and Gachagua held a meeting of the UDA National Steering Committee(NSC) which unveiled the roadmap to the party’s grassroots polls.

The first phase of UDA elections will take place on April 26, 2024, in seven counties.

They include Nairobi, Narok, West-Pokot, Busia, Homabay, Isiolo and Garissa.

The second phase of the grassroots election will be on June 22, 2024, in 13 counties namely; Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale and Marsabit.

The third phase will be held on August 10 across 15 counties of Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega, Nyamira, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mandera, Kilifi, Murang’a and Lamu.

The last phase will take place on August 24, 2024 in 12 counties.

The counties to participate are Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Laikipia, Trans-Nzoia, Kisumu, Vihiga and Makueni
