Africa-Press – Kenya. President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Kenyan rugby legend and former Kenya Sevens captain, Humphrey Kayange, for being inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame, Class of 2021.
The Head of State saluted Kayange, the first East African to enter the 164-person list of world rugby luminaries.
Uhuru said the feat was a global honour of the star’s contribution to the rise of rugby in Kenya and challenged upcoming players to emulate the 39-year old’s exploits.
ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi also congratulated the rugby legend saying it was a great honour to Kenya’s sportsmen and women.
“Congratulations Kenya Sevens legend, Humphrey Kayange, on your induction to the World Rugby Hall of Fame. This is a great honour to our sportsmen/women and our nation. As a former rugby player, I am very proud of you for the feat you have achieved as a role model and as a nationalist,” Mudavadi said.
Others, who have been inducted include Fijian Olympic Rugby winning Sevens captain Osea Kolinisau, former England Rugby captain Will Carling and Manuel-Carpenter, who won silver with New Zealand as rugby sevens made its Olympic debut in Brazil.
Former Scotland international and coach Jim Telfer and Australia’s Chery McAfee were the other inductees.
World Rugby chairman and Hall of Fame inductee No.94 Sir Bill Beaumont said, “On behalf of WR, I would like to congratulate our six Hall of Fame inductees, who did not just make their mark on the field of play, but also played a significant role in advancing the sport.
