Africa-Press – Kenya. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has commended the upcoming Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Sagana. The governor said the project is a major development milestone in the county and the Mt Kenya region.

Waiguru who is also the chairperson Council of Governors said that it will open up immense export opportunities for horticultural and other products in the region.

“The manufacturing hub will turn around the county’s economy and the mountain region,” she said.

Waiguru said the industrial park will create over 5,000 jobs directly for residents and others indirectly. She also lauded President William Ruto for his support of national projects in the county.

“President Ruto has helped in the gazettement of the EPZ, and budgetary allocations to start the project,” the governor said She spoke during the launch of the distribution of bursaries worth Sh108 million to needy secondary and university students at her Kutus office.

Waiguru said about 40,000 students who were identified following a vetting process by the Ward Bursary Committees will benefit from the bursaries. On politics, Waiguru urged leaders to toe down county succession politics and put the interests of the residents’ utmost according to development priority.

Waiguru said although her two constitutional terms are expected to come to an end, she will firmly take charge of the county politics to ensure the county gets development and conscious leadership.

“We have spared no effort to develop this county, we cannot sit back and watch the county go to bad leaders after my term is over. We will guard development works initiated by my administration,” she said.
