Africa-Press – Kenya. Roots party has appointed Vinod Ramji as the Deputy Party Leader.
This comes days after party leader George Wajackoyah and his running mate Justina Wamae fell out on allegations that she was misrepresenting the party’s stand.
In an advertisement, the party also appointed Naran Velji Arjan as CEO and Janet Akinyi Odhiambo as Deputy National Chairperson.
The party said the changes follow a resolution by the National Executive Committee in a meeting held at the party head office in Karen.
“We refer to the aforementioned matter following a resolution by Roots Party National Executive Committee in a meeting held at the party head office, we confirm the appointment of new party officials,” read part of the document.
Wamae was on Friday summoned by the party following her utterances.
The meeting was to be a disciplinary proceeding against Wamae whose relationship with Wajackoyah has grown sour since the August 9 general elections.
“That due to your continuous misrepresentation of the Party’s stand, the Party has suffered public ridicule and disrepute. It is in our knowledge that you have continuously disassociated yourself with the party and its ideologies,” the summon letter read.
Wamae arrived at the establishment accompanied by her armed guards and several supporters.
She demanded to be let into the premises with at least six supporters and in the presence of media cameras in the room but a standoff ensued as the supporters were not allowed.
Addressing the press, Wamae said she was not aware of the agenda of the disciplinary gathering.
“I have shown up as a law-abiding citizen,” she said.
“Have been called to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee. I’m yet to know my offences. I have just responded.”
Wajackoyah told the Star the party had invited Wamae to show cause why she should not be expelled from the outfit, after allegedly speaking out of turn with its leadership in recent weeks.
